The Gospel
The gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ. The entire Bible tells the story of the gospel. The Bible tells us in Genesis 1 that God created the universe and everything in the heavens and the earth. Mankind was created in God’s image and given the responsibility to care for God’s creation (Genesis 1:26-27).
Yet, Adam and Eve, the first two people God created, sinned against God, and were separated from God because of their sin (Genesis 3). Since that time, all people have sinned and are separated from God because our sin (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23). The result of our sin is death and eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23).
But God – perhaps two of the best words in the Bible (Romans 5:8) – sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we might repent and be saved (John 3:16, Romans 6:23, Acts 2:38). The Bible says that if one confesses their sins and that Jesus is Lord, and believes in their heart that he was raised from the dead, then he, or she, will be saved (Romans 10:9-10).
The only way to be made right with God is through faith in Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Salvation is the work of God, not of man (Acts 4:12, John 1:12). One is saved by the grace of God through faith in the Son of God. It is the work of God alone that brings salvation through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:1-10).
